WPC Has A New Home!
Sunday, May 20, 2007, was an historic day for Wildwood Presbyterian Church!
At 8:00 a.m. we gathered in the church on Sears Boulevard in Wildwood that had been our home for fifty years for closing prayers and hymns. At 9:00 a.m. we met at 18630 Old Gages Lake Road in Grayslake for the first worship service in our new church home. Worship included the confirmation of eighteen young people and the dedication of our commitments to Come Build A Church 2, the three year capital campaign for our building fund. After worship came the first of many celebrations to come, with marvelous refreshments.
The new Sunday schedule began May 27, with worship at 8:00 and 10:30 a.m., and Sunday School for all ages at 9:15 a.m. (September through May). A coffee hour follows each worship serice, year round.
On June 3, we celebrated communion for the first time in our new location. Somewhat appropriately, we shared the bread and cup during a worship service held in the fellowship hall, where we will meet, share, and talk for many years to come.
The first Sunday in our new sanctuary was June 10. Worship that day included the Sacrament of Baptism administered to two newborn children, the very first baptisms in our new church. Sunday, June 17 was Bible School Sunday, as the 180 children and 80 staff of VBS sang and danced in the new sanctuary. The new grand piano and digital organ made their first appearance in the sanctuary on June 24, and the first communion service in the new sanctuary was July 1.
The formal dedication service for Wildwood Presbyterian Church's new home will be Sunday, September 16, 10:30 a.m. We will celebrate the goodness of God in worship, and honor all those who made our new church possible, including architects, builders, the church design team, donors, givers of special gifts, community leaders, and representatives of the Chicago Presbytery and our partner churches. A delicious reception will follow.
Soon the "firsts" will be over, but each Sunday will still be an opportunity to meet the living God at WPC. Newcomers are always welcome!
Grace and peace to you and yours,
Your friends on the Session of WPC
