The task force charged with developing a process for having conversations about difficult issues has been meeting most weeks since December to that end, mindful that difficult issues are complex and hard to solve. The task force is working with the belief that we are all part of the Body of Christ, whatever our views, and we prayerfully remind ourselves of the two Great Commandments Jesus gave us, to Love the Lord our God and to Love our Neighbor.
We are very grateful to everyone who completed the survey, and we have looked through all the responses so we can use what we have learned to develop informational presentations and discussion opportunities. Our charge by Session included the presumption that we use this process to discuss gender, sexuality, and marriage.
The scope of these topics requires that we develop a series of presentations to be held over a period of time. We will begin by looking at and learning about gender, then, next fall we will continue with presentations which will include different biblical perspectives on sexuality as understood by various Christian traditions; reformed theology; social perceptions; and the PCUSA statement on marriage.
