The Come Build A Church 2 Stewardship Campaign
Come build a church… This is the theme of our stewardship campaign. It seems fairly straightforward. It is what we have done: built a new church, from the ground up, with hammer and nails, bricks and mortar. We were all invited to come build a church...
Come build a church… It is more than bricks and mortar, of course. You knew that. People have been building a church in Wildwood for fifty years now, a church of flesh and bone, a church of Word and Spirit. Even though we are serving God in our new building, we are still building a church, with our worship, our caring, our service.
Come build a church… You who are part of God’s family at WPC in this generation have been wonderfully faithful. Vibrant worship with children, youth, and adults; caring fellowship that builds friendships and lifts spirits; learning opportunities for all ages; and compassion for the hungry, the homeless, the young and the aged. Our new facility will allow us to dream new dreams for God in the future. And so we have a rare opportunity in these challenging times to build a church... a church facility that will empower our church’s mission, both today and for generations to come. We have a new church home, but the journey of faith has just begun.
The announcement of our move to our new church home!
The formal dedication service for Wildwood Presbyterian Church's new home took place on Sunday, September 16, 2007. We celebrated the goodness of God in worship, and honored all those who made our new church possible, including architects, builders, the church design team, donors, givers of special gifts, community leaders, and representatives of the Chicago Presbytery and our partner churches. The first two stained glass windows, carefully removed from our former sanctuary and refitted for the new one, were installed in time for the occasion. A delicious reception followed.
More "firsts" followed as WPC hosted Grayslake's ecumenical Thanksgiving service in November, a joyful Christmas pageant and concert, the first Christmas Eve candlelight services, the initial "Whammies" youth talent show, and the first cycle of Lenten services including Holy Thursday and Good Friday, culminating in Easter. For the first time, WPC hosted a meeting of the Chicago Presbytery on April 8, 2008. We hosted the "Spring Ring" Bell Choir Festival on April 20, 2008, and celebrated Mother's Day/Youth Sunday on May 11, 2008.
Soon the "firsts" will be over, but each Sunday will still be an opportunity to meet the living God at WPC. Newcomers are always welcome!
